I recently spent a lovely day shopping with my mother. I'm not a huge power shopper, but I do love visiting department stores and boutiques when I have time. I'm famous for making lists and I keep small notes of things I need so I remember when I go shopping. My job is demanding and so is my dog. It's hard to take time for myself when I'm always traveling for work. It's even harder to slip away and shop. But sometimes a girl simply needs a relaxing, or not so relaxing, afternoon of shopping. That's what I did last week, I visited a few department stores and boutiques with my mother.
Before you go shopping it's important to know what you'd like to purchase beforehand. This way you don't accumulate items you don't need or will never use. Let's face it, we have all been there. Who hasn't gone on a shopping spree and toted bags and bags of clothes and shoes only to rarely wear them. I'm not immune to this at all and in fact it's happened to me many times. I absolutely loathe knowing I bought something that I never wear. A few years ago I went over my wardrobe with a fine tooth comb and collected an embarrassing amount of things I no longer wear or use. From there I let my friends and family choose what they wanted and whatever was left, I donated to a local homeless shelter. After that, I promised myself to only buy what I needed or what was on my list. I'm rather proud of myself that since the big purge, I've only been shopping three or four times and each excursion was for basics such as a new pair of work shoes or much needed under garments.
However, with summer rolling around and a lot of engagements, I was in dire need of some dresses and the like. I met my mom at our favorite cafe for breakfast and a few cups of coffee. We discussed what we both needed to purchase. High on my mom's list was a new handbag. Once I heard that, I started thinking about accessories as well. It had been several years since I purchased a new bag and I did need a larger work handbag. Perhaps today I would find a stylish work and travel bag. We all tote around many different things on a daily basis and it's only fair we use the appropriate sized bag to protect all of our neccesseties. With coffee in takeout cups, we walked from the cafe to the outdoor luxury shopping complex. It's a beautiful shopping complex that makes online shopping seem utterly boring and 1 dimensional. It's great when brick-and-mortar stores go above and beyond and it makes you appreciate them that much more.
As we entered our favorite department store we were met with shiny displays of handbags and leather goods. Right away we spotted a few handbags we liked and asked the SA if we could see them. Nothing compares to seeing amazing designer handbags in person. It turned out to be a great day of shopping and I only purchased what I needed.
